How Do You Fix Rear Bumper?

I took my '89 Grand Marquis out this evening to put some gas in it and I was marveling at how well it was doing on the icy roads around here. Just as I was pulling up to the last stop light before the gas station, a guy behind me slid on some ice and tried to steer off the street to the right, but didn't make it and tagged the right side of my rear bumper with the front left corner of his car. The only apparent damage to my car is that the right side of the rear bumper is pushed in.

I know there are two big shock absorber type things that allow the bumper to do this when hit.

Question is -- what's the best way to get the bumper back to its original position? Do you have to replace the shock absorber thing, or can you somehow get it to "pop" back out?

you could probably oil up the absorber and sledge hammer it back out.
