Well, lots of thinking but no actual progress.

Wishing I still had the explorer diff cover. Also thinking the explorer might be a source for the longer axles I need, so I wouldn't have to go custom. Just need to know the spline on the axles on the 'sploder.

The spline on the axle shaft, not the diff.....If it's the same as the thunderbird-so I can use the Tbird cv joints.

No idea then. That's all RockAuto tells me.

You mean, the front axles from an explorer right? Because I'm pretty sure the rear is solid.

Nope, he's talking about the later Explorers, right before the taurus unibody junk out right now. The one with the rear driveshafts that run through the frame rails.

This is the cover IIRC (I had an Explorer loaner a few years ago):

Wondering if the wider Expedition IRS might be something for Panther owners to look into.

02-10 Explorers were all IRS, except for 02/03 Sports. (02-05 Exploders being some of the worse vehicle's Ford has made in recent times)

Yup, I used to have on of those covers too....Sold it... DOH!

The IRS on the new sploders is a semi trailing arm though. Which is CRAP. It's what my BMW has.
