    Brake trouble

I thought the rear flex line on my 84 was busted, but it turns out that the metal line has a hole rusted through it. Where I can get a new line, or do I have to build one?

Gotta buy strait lengths and bend/connect then where you need them. Did it break over the transmission cross-member as usual? if so go ahead and replace that whole length on that strait stretch of frame.

No, it's right on the nut where it connects to the rear flex line.

Damn, that's a tight squeeze. You just have to replace as much line as you need to get to a portion you have enough room to cut and flare. have fun!

If it rotted there, its probably questionable in other places. Inspect that line very closely and replace as needed. I did the entire rear line on my car when I did the rear discs. It had been patched once, and it was in generally poor condition.

invest in a double flaring tool and a small tubing cutter.....you'll get lots of use out of it and will be popular with your friends.....might even be able to get in some womans pants after you fix her brake line.
i would replace the rear brake hose also and check the rest of the lines.......seems like part of the program here with any car that's 20 yrs old.....heck i'm replaced lines on the neighbors 96 buick and half the lines on skippys f250

like others have said, if you're replacing it there, you might as well do all the rear brake line and hosing.

rear passenger side metal line on my car rubbed through, good thing I have an extra rear diff laying around. I pulled the line off it and swapped it.

try a local salvage yard, steal a brake line off of it.

Yeah, I figure anything I steal a line from is going to be nearly as old as my car, so I'd rather go "new" here. Is the line just one piece from the master cylinder back, or are there crazy couplers and adapters and things in there, too?

Amen brother! Also get yourself a tubing bender, and start thinking out side of the box. With these tools and enough line you can run it any way you want and tie it up with zipper ties. I have found in the past that usually right by the orininal line is usually the best place for it.

I remove rusted lines and just put the new one in the stock clamps. Somehow having an abandoned line in there bugs me.
