    POR15

I got some last fall. It came with the marine degreaser, some sort of prep/primer coating (blue liquid/glaze), POR15, and some chassis paint. Does anybody have some tips with using this stuff? I'm contemplating undercoating the CV this weekend. If I have enough time, I might throw some of the chassis paint on top of the POR15.

I used it on the interior side of the floor on my car. It works very well, and is extremely durable.

My Dad painted some stuff on his truck frame one time, and it worked well there, too. But, it did "react" (discolored permanently) to some soap we were using to powerwash it one time. I'd probably topcoat it if I was using it externally.

don't get it on your hands. It doesn't come off very well.

When you put the lid back on, put a piece of saran wrap over the top of the can, then put the lid on. It will glue itself together otherwise and you probably won't get it off.

Otherwise, just follow the directions, it works pretty well. Nothing too special about it, degrease things, prep the metal with the blue stuff, let that dry, then brush it on. The blue stuff is a phosphoric acid solution, used to neutralize rust and leave a phosphate coating.

It does turn wierd colors in the sun though. It wasn't intended for visible use, so topcoating it would be a good idea. It won't harm it to leave it uncoated but it looks funky.

A big +1 on the saran wrap/ thin plastic sheeting under the lid. I did that the first time I used it. If I hadn't, I would not have gotten it open again.

+2 for not getting it on your hands and being careful about the lid.

POR15 recommends dumping what you intend to use into another container (that you don't mind ruining - I usually cut the bottom off a plastic bottle or soda can) and then immediately sealing the can back up with saran wrap between the can and lid.

Cover anything you wouldn't want that shit getting on. This includes your face (if you'll be lying under your work), your hands/arms, YOUR EYES, and the floor. Once the shit goes on you can TRY to get it off but you have to do it immediately to even have a prayer of success. Don't expect to get it off.

Thanks guys. I'll get some rubber gloves and Saran Wrap when using the stuff. I have some cleaned out Chinese take out trays to use for the paint and stuff. They work well.

It also doesn't stick as well to painted, or any smooth surface, as it does a pitted rusted surface.

Definitely use saran rap like mentioned and don't try to put it in strofoam, it eats right through it. I think when topcoating you may need some sort of tie coat but I could be mistaken. There's about 3 cans of this in my car (floorpan, trunk, under exterior moldings, frame, ect.) and it works really well. I apply it with cheap disposable bristle brushes.
