    92 townie wheels

    $50. woop.

They look like the ones andymac has.....a little bit browner with dirt and very slight pitting (I assume that's what it is, anyway, since these don't rust.) They look like they've been sitting in a shed or something.

Can you get rid of that pitting, or..? I haven't even tried cleaning them up yet so some of it is likely caked on dirt.

What does one use to clean aluminium wheels?

Those aren't the style I have, but cleaning them will be similar.

I got 2 more from a J/Y last year, mainly because the had almost new studded snow tires on them. They were coated in some yellow/gold crap that I can only assume is brake dust mixed with road grime and hardened to almost a coated finish.

Yours aren't nearly as bad, although your outer clearcoat looks like it's been messed up pretty good from wheelwieghts.

I started out with a bucket of water, a mild abrasive cleaner, and a kitchen sponge (the kind with the scrubby on the back).
That will probably get you to where you want to be.

        Me on the other hand.......
I had to go for a harsher abrasive....and a harsher scrubbing pad. And getting in between all those cast "spokes" or whatever you call them.....had me really wishing I had held out for some ranger "deer hoof" style wheels as they would have been much easier to claen than these fucking things!

They do look nice once there all cleaned up though.

Sand blast and paint It would look like new. If you cannot sand blast, a lot of sanding will have them looking fresh.

nice rims, i like them and that stuff you think is rust is brake dust and if there is rust, its from metallic brake pads. you gonna put them on your vic? my buddy has em on his 88 merc and it looks sweet.

hmm...rx7 guys seem to like oven cleaner to clean oxidization from aluminum wheels. can anyone think of a reason this wouldn't work? other than probably burning your throat out if you tried it indoors

yup, gonna go on the vic with some white letters if possible. two of the lincoln wheels came with tires, and i've got two good tires at home so i'm probably going to use the mismatched ones (though the dimensions are the same) until i've got the money for white letters.

Thanks. Cleaning up nice so far.

Will I need to coat them with anything to protect them after I basically scrape the bejesus out of em?
