Leaking on left side of rear axle?

Looking from the back, there seems to be fluid leaking from what looks like some kind of nipple or something on the top of the axle on the left side. Its not dripping or anything but it looks like its soaked up into the metal or something. I tried turning the nipple thing with the rubber top but its not a screw and just spins around...

It's a vent to let off excess pressure as the axle heats up during operation.

Is this thing on the axle tube itself or on the very end on the backing plate for the drum brakes?

air vent. Probably doesn't mean much, but you may want to consider having the diff oil changed when you have some extra cash. I doubt you have anything to worry about though.

Like gadget said, it's a vent. It has to work or be open, you can blow the seals if it is plugged.
