The fluid capacity of the calipers is the same, just the material the piston is made of that is different.

In general, phenolic pistons are the preferred piston. A lot less heat transfer, and no corrosion. Check out the later cop cars, phenolic pistons, with the civvie cars having a steel piston.
See page 4 of the attachment. Plenty more references on google including an sae paper.

Mind you up to 94 has the same caliper piston size as box brakes. I did try and look up an MC for a 1998 model on rockauto, and that also seems to tell me its 1". I haven't confirmed that against a Ford factory manual, so I don't consider the information fully blessed.

SVO master cylinder is apparently larger. I think its 1 1/4 or 1 3/16 piston. 84 Mark VII has the same specs, but the MC is iron instead of aluminum, and substantially cheaper.

true true but a 94 also has rear discs.

And the fact that many people are driving around with big brakes and rear discs with the stock MC/BB (without accidents) is enough evidence for me.

I still need to bum a ride in it with you. I will definitely bring him by if/when we are near (i.e. harrys) because he needs to see what some creativity can do to a Town Car that would be very comparable in the fun factor as compared to his Mustang. He needs to learn to respect well built machines no matter what they are.
