Ball joint stud snapped in 1/2 on the Vic Wed. & $211. later it's fixed. Had 2 replace outer tie rodd cause it bent it up. All of that is only 2 yrs old WTF.. Tech @ the shop said if it had been any other ride it would have been worse..

Eek. Do you know if the failed joint was some sort of China-made junk, had been installed incorrectly, and/or had been subjected to any sort of unreasonable abuse?

Must have been a manufacturing defect, or it got bitched up when installed. That stud is usually hardened steel, extremely difficult to break, or even cut. If it was some offshore BS part though, it may not have been made from the proper materials.

I thought Moog was the brand Summit sold for replacement suspension parts.

Damn straight. The aftermarket shit (Moog etc.) has never lasted on my vehicles, I can usually expect half the lifespan of the stock parts. Buy it all from Ford if you can.

How do I remove the lower ball joint on a 02 Lincoln lower control arm?

I used a hammer, but a couple of guys in another thread were talking about the benefits of a dedicated balljoint press, and I think I'll try one next time. The one they were talking about is evidently a handheld tool that looks like a goofy C clamp, and you can rent it for free at AutoZone.

yep, the big funky C clamp tool. Same exact process as pulling ball joints from an older model. I do hope you're not harvesting used ball joints for a big brake swap though, otherwise I may have to smack you.

I've been running McQuay-Norris parts on the front of the Towncar for several years now. Its all still tight and in good shape. I do grease it regularly though, so perhaps thats the magic. OEM Ford stuff is actually TRW, and that happens to be cheaper than Moog most of the time. The stuff on the front of the Mark VII is Napa Premium, which I believe is actually Spicer (Dana) products.

Huh. I thought moog was supposed to be really good. I just bought a moog idler arm. Was that a bad idea?

No idea, try it and see. I put some moog ball joints in my Caravan,(all stock 300,xxxkm on it) and in a month (7,000km) they were loose and it was deadly to drive. The trans went shortly after anyway. I just started buying Napa stuff, if I feel really cheap its Autosense crap because its half the price and usually just as good.

I put Danas in the front of my Townie, I have actually caught air with the bitch on numerous occasions, and an year later everything was still tight and up to specs. It did cost me quite a penny tho...
