Have the place remove the rest and replace, at mechanics expense.

I recently broke my NON STOCK FORD DEALER EQUIPPED mcguard key and ordered another one. It took over two freaking weeks to get here. The day i break down and use a wheel lock remover, which btw totally destroys the edges of the lug nut, i checked the mail and there that damn freakin key was sitting, AFTER i ruined the lugs getting them off with the remover.

Replace your factory locks with regular lug nuts. No one wants to steal turbines. Except me.

If all else fails, a pipe wrench works wonders for removing them.

or take a 12-point socket and beat it onto the lug nut with a hammer

You can buy special sockets that look like fine-toothed "bolt outs" specifically for removing a damaged lugnut or a locking nut you don't have the key for, but they're kind of expensive if you'll only need 'em once. I got lucky and was able to get a shop to remove some locks for free once when I had permanently misplaced the key.

Rumor has it that in some areas, any and all wheels are liable to go missing.

12 Pt Socket or Boltout -- Which is Better?

A friend has a similar problem. He bought a '97 HHP with locking lugs on all the wheels, but the seller had lost the key.

I've seen those special internally threaded sockets you can buy for about $20 for taking off locking lugs that 1987cp mentioned. Has anyone used them? Do they work well? Do you need an impact wrench or can you use them with a regular old ratchet?

Or is it just as good to use a socket and pound it on with a hammer?

A cheapo 12 point is much cheaper and works better. I wouldn't use an impact, as it would probably just break more stuff. Just use a big ratchet or a breaker bar.

I used them the other day, they grip the lug well after you beat the removal key on it. It chews up the edges of the lug nut so you will want a replacement set, as mine are rusting right now. I used a a half inch ratchet and after many attempts it finally came off, but the shop person i borrowed the removal tool from always used a impact gun.

I replaced my Ford Locks with McGaurd ones after the key starting stripping. The McGaurd hey design is much better. I actually think the center caps are a decent theft deterrant since they are such a PITA to get off.
