    trouble in first when cold.

being that winter is on its way to the north east it has a bad effect on my transmission only when it sits for a few hours. it has trouble shifting in to first but once hte motor wamrs up its fine and i never have a problem all day as long as it doesnt sit for more then like 6 hours.

a kid i work wiht said it was the accumulator/ actuator or something like that. in other words the main valve that youll see when you pull the valve body out. im kinda wondering if i could just change the seal on it and install a shift kit at the same time? course hten i wonder if ill just add extra wear to the tranny with a shift kit?

i do know id like to have a tci or mustang govenor so itd shift higher though( lopo gov sucks balls). any tips or ideas?

just to add htough, last winter i put a thing of htat lucas tranny fix in the thing and never had a problem, so i may jst add another bottle (emptied the old fluid while rebuilding the motor) but i rahter not try andhide hte problm and just fix it.

like thats the thing though. it shifts fine and it never seems to struggle but when its cold it had trouble till it warms up but over hte summer, well at least when the temp is over 50 at night its fine. i dunno htough. i may just put a bottle of the lucas in the thing but itd be nice to know whats wrong.

My experience with the mostly-stock AOD in the wagon is that it goes into Drive fine, if a touch slow, when it's cold out, but does tend to experience delayed 1-2 shifts till it warms up.

mine just lags trying to shift into first sometimes after taking forever to shift into neutral and other times just shifting into first form reverse. but when it goes into first its fine going into every other gear. its weird and it all depends on how cold it is too. ive noticed too that i hear a whining sound too till it warms up sometimes.

now my tranny does have over 230,00 on it so i cant expect it to run like new and i think im lucky it even runs fine while warm but if i can fix it and get it to last longer then id be happy.

Huh, would make some sense that low line pressure would be a possibility. I do notice that the four-door seems to take FOREVER to shift into First, since the somewhat lower-mileage transmission in the wagon dumps into gear almost immediately.

When was the last time you did a fluid and filter change?

Try more TV pressure. If its got 230k on it, the pump is probably tired. low pressure will make for slower engagement.

+2 on raising the TV pressure. If it's too low, the 1st gear clutches won't engage properly.

i talked to a tranny shop and they said that it sounds like the govenor is a little loose and works properly when its warm. but for me it could be the tv pressure too cause i havent properly adjusted it yet along wiht the govenor thing possibly.
