New shock absorbers won't affect ride height; new springs will. All the information you want is in the stickies at the top of this forum.

if you mess with changing the springs... you will need new shocks more than likely since the lower bolt has a tendency to snap. upper nut i found easiest to have a helper with. have them hold wrench above frame thru the fenderwell back there on the nut and turn the shock by holding the upper part of it since it is secured to the threaded part. easiest way yo t remove is loosen the top nut about the same way after breaking it loose. if it doesnt loosen well enough, loosen it about half way and bend the upper threads by pushing on the shock and breaking it.

yea.i figured that i'd have to just do both shocks and springs.which shocks and springs are the best for being able to adjust the height?

Yes you could, and they last forever, at least my cheapo ones did. I ran air shocks for a long time, and never experienced any problems.

I will be getting rid of my Tokico HP Blues soon though. Got a free set of Bilstein HD shocks to go on!....after I paid almost $300 for the QA1s to go on the 73 Celica (yep the shocks are interchangeable between the Vic and the Celica.)

Another good option would be Monroe Sensetrac Coil-overs in the rear. I've had two sets in my car over that past couple of years and they work out very well for me. They aren't a fix for very tired springs but they help keep the rear up if you load the trunk up without the stiffness of air shocks.

all you have to do is put the car on jackstands, but a jack under the axle, unbolt the shock, lower the jack and the spring will come out pretty easily.

ok so it's basically just unbolt the shocks, the springs come out when u drop the jack, and rebolt the new shocks huh?sounds like a basic plug and play to me

Nope, the springs just sit in their perches. The Shocks bolt in and hold the axle from drooping too far.

It's not tough, with the exception of the upper shock nut removal, but there are ways to make that easier too.

Just make damn sure you have the car supported safely on jackstands before attempting any of it. And make sure the axle is supported while removing the shocks.
