The springs I got for my car at one point were 710 in/lb and the claimed application was 1998 Grand Marq. It was ebay so who the hell knows. They made the car sit an inch or so too high and it rode like shit though. I put stock springs back on the car.

I stole a set of coil springs from a railroad car up the road from my house. The wagon sat at the proper height afterward, and handled as if it were on rails, but the only way the car would have a nice ride was if you stacked 10 tons of lumber on the front end.

Those are still pretty soft. I had a set on my 87 sedan...Better than stock though.

If I got a set of '98 PI front springs and cut off the proper amount of coils to even out the ride height; will this increase the stiffness of the springs? I may need to get the '98s if my father makes too much of a fuss with the 925#ers.

yes, the rate will increase. if you look in the stickie thread called suspension formulas i put the formula for figuring out spring rate. if a spring has 10 coils, and you remove one coil your rate will go up over 10%

They run a little over $100 a pop retail at the dealer. Cheaper if you order online, ie Fordparts.com or similar.
They may want a suspension code - give them "NN" for the front. Which translates to spring catchcode NUL, which the number above is for.

For just a bit more $$ you can have custom springs made to your specs - rate and ride height (from stock) however you want. Coilsprings.com is where I got mine.

Keep in mind, if you use worn/used coil springs they will not be as stiff or have the same ride height as brand new.

A '98 Marquis would have only 440lbs/in front coil springs. Unless it's an HPP, in which case like all '92-'02 HPPs 540lbs/in - still short of his 700lbs/in target though.

know this is ancient, but wondered if anyone has a CURRENTLY AVAILABLE 2002 crown vic spring in the 700 lb/in range that wont jack up the front... really want stiffer front end, but would prefer not having to cut to restore ride height... thanks for any info

Looks like Rock Auto has LESJÖFORS 4127547 P71 springs for a 98 model year. That should be 700# spring rate.

As for length, police springs are known to be a little longer and may increase ride height a little. Since' I've not done the swap myself as I prefer the stock spring rates with performance shocks, I can't be sure.
