Yeppers ... they actually do okay with sufficient backspacing, but whatever I've got on the Westerns is contributing heavily to my choice to do a Boss 302 routine on all four wheelwell lips on the wagon. Actually got a start on that today ... thinking I need to get that cheap body hammer set at Harbor Freight to keep stuff from getting weird and crooked.......

Don't suppose that has anything to do with all your gratuitous burnout shots? Just maybe? Hm?

I think the mang's implying that it's hillbilly to want billboard tires in the first place. :p

Personally, I kind of like 'em too, but then, my hillbilly parental unit has been known to put whitewall tires on an Escort.

RWL looks ok, but unfortunately most of the tires they come on are complete shit. I bought a set for my truck, my only requirement being RWL. The tires have been on there probably 4 years now, and I don't drive the truck anymore because I hate them so much. They have terrible wet and snow traction, dry isn't so hot either and they don't handle for crap. I'm seriously planning on replacing them even though they've probably still got 60% or better tread after all this time just so I can drive the truck again. I'm going back to passenger car tires. I had a set on there before, and it handled better, had better traction, and was a lot less noisy. They did wear out a lot faster but I'll give up treadwear for safety and comfort. This thing is a real trick to drive in reduced traction conditions. I can blow the tires loose at 15 in the rain on the 1-2 shift without even trying.

What the hell does that mean? You want white letters so bad. You can get paint thats made to do that. Duplicolor sells it, come in white red and yellow and maybe a few other colors. People been doing it for years

Hell I painted the letters on my tires with rustoleum. I don't know how long it'll stay but it's bright white for now. Plus it was sitting in the garage and it was a great way to kill 15 minutes, call me a redneck all you want

it just screams redneck to me..don't mean to offend anyone...its just what comes to mind but hmm...it may not be a bad idea lol.

oh yea, Mike. lol...Many burnouts have been done with those tires..to be honest, I'm surprised they still have tread on them. Heck I put them on as soon as I got the car..when winter started in '04. Sp they have gone thru 3 1/2 years of abuse. lol

I think if this car ever becomes a spring/summer/fall car and no longer a winter car, I might consider getting Chargers again when the time comes for new tires.

Hos do you think the factories get their tires to have white walls? they paint them.

I was not saying to use spray paint. there are specific paints made for this.

For doing letters duplicolor makes it a pen with a small detail brush. No masking, just draw it on.

I'm not sure that's entirely true, it's my understanding that white walls are natural (non carbon) white rubber, if you slice into the white wall section of a tire you will see it's white all the way through not simply painted on the surface.

Tires are all white in the beginning, the black is added for durability (carbon).

That would seem to conflict with the fact that: a) when a whitewall is worn through it will show black underneath (in my experience - different models may differ), and b) when you cut into a blackwall tire (as I've done accidentally), no white is visible at all.

yes OWL RWL letters on all tires Ive seen are just a portion of a thick rubber whitewall masked by black rubber to make the letters

The white part of the tires (rwl or WW) is natural white rubber, it's not painted. Have you ever noticed that OWL and RWL tires show white when they hit a curb, most tires are all white to begin with, rubber is naturally white.

Having done crazy things in cars with white walls and trucks with raised white letters, I have consistently seen on both of these tires:

1)Black rubber covering a white rubber core (whitewall or RWL) and then black rubber again for the inner surface.
                                2)BSW tires are black throughout.

For this reason, no matter how much I used Westley's Bleche White sprayed on the tire followed up with a wire brush, the whitewalls/RWLs always stayed white.

I dunno about the newer Chinese tires now...
