    shock brands + part numbers

I have just finished putting the new heater core back in the wagon so the next job is to buy some new shocks for the next warrant of fitness. They don't have them at the ford dealers in NZ .
Any help with aftermarket brands and part numbers etc would be appreciated.

what kind of money are you looking to spend?
an inexpensive upgrade is to get shocks for the same year police car.
a good quality low cost shock is the kyb gr2 1987 police application
it's what i have been running on my town car for the past five years, no complaints.....try rockauto.com i do believe they will ship overseas
bilstein makes shocks for the panthers but they are kinda pricey
same with the edelbrock shocks......like 80 bucks ea.
well our money is about as worthless as canadian money now, so you might get a deal lol

1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt
2006 Lincoln Town Car Signature. Stock for now
1989 Ford F-250 4x4 much much more to come, sefi converted so far.
1986 Toyota pickup with LSC wheels and 225/60/16 tires.
2008 Hyundai Elantra future Revcon toad
1987 TriBurner and 1986 Alaska stokers keeping me warm. (and some pesky oil heat)

please be patient, rebuilding an empire!

if you read the stickies at the top of this section you will find listings for shocks.

not sure what cars are available in NZ, but a lot of chevy camaro shocks are the same, along with rears from Mustangs, but i dont know wether either are available there or what they are called

Dunno if they have parts for the newer vics, but the shocks are interchangable to 2002. No clue on the crossover to other cars....Like what sister car of the mustang and camaro is. Falcon and Monaro? Really too far back to have the global chassis like nowadays where the same car is available everywhere.

i put the monroe coilovers on mine a few months back and have been extremely happy with the ride and stance.

they were only about $50 for the pair.

also if your springs are old, you really might wanna consider some new wagon cargo {variable rate} springs. makes a huge difference on stance.

can only speak for what i've tried, but i hope it helps.

Looking to firm up the ride a little - not to harsh though. Next time its on the hoist a i'll have a decent look at the shocks.

luckily the 5.0 motor is the same as the older NZ falcon, so parts are fairly easy to find for that.

            Thanks for your help.

2002 Crown Vic Police shocks would work well, and you should be able to get them from the ford dealer.

I'd check that, those are well inexpensive.

out of curosity for those of us who aren't world travelers, what is the situation in New Zealand on getting parts?
any parts stores at all besides dealerships?
                  any problems ordering things online?
                  thanks and good luck, Bill

Well, getting motor parts is easy - everything else is very hard to find. Most parts stores are Australian owned like repco and supercheap auto and they mainly stock parts for NZ new and used second hand jap imports . Most of these types of vehicles were imported into NZ to be used as a hearse - so they are normally low kms and well looked after. So not many second hand spares are available.

If we knew what the other models corresponded to over here, we could be of more help. Like the mondeo IIRC is a taurus, falcon/mustang, etc... If you can figure out the crossovers, stuff like the rear shocks are the similar for mustangs and crown vics...So falcon parts might work.

I posted a link to a shock dimension page on monroes website, that might hlep if you can find a similar NZ page to compare them to. Also, what aftermarket companies do you have? Koni? Tokico?

could you do us a favor?
supposedly aussie 5.0's had the intake manifold facing just like the vics
and they had a 65mm throttle body over there
the egr spacers would be of great use to us if they are the same as the ford lightning truck egr spacer.....could you check into this for us?
