The cheap tires on the Vic are Runway brand, made in China.

When I replace mine, it'll be with the same things I have now. its not that they're the bee's knees of tires, but its hard to find anything comparable in performance and price. Basically, I can get a deal on these, so I'll do it. I've been running on these for 2 years now, probably 25k miles, and really have no complaints. The only reason I even need new ones is due to several poor alignments causing excessive wear on the passenger front tire. Since I rotate them, both are somewhat worn, and one has a sidewall plug thanks to being chewed against the fender for a while when I had the wrong springs in the car. Driver's side tires probably still have 40% tread or better, and with the mileage they have I can't complain about that. I'm also satisfied with their wet and snow performance. I would like to try out the Firestone tires, but at more than 1/3 again the price I can get the Fuzions for, I'm not *that* interested in trying them out.

Wow, didn't know anyone was still selling 15" tires for under $50 each, and H-speed-rated to boot. Usually like I said before, I usually only see weird offbrands from local dealers for prices comparable with "real" tires.

So are those things any good?

Im sure there are plenty of cheap brands just as good as name brands... all you can do is compare specs and plies if you dont know someone whos run them.
Also dont forget treadwear and grip are a compromise... you cant have both unless you get the super expensive tires... Any super grip tires are gonna wear out faster, and tires with treadwear ratings of 600+ arent going to have the best traction, compared to lesser treadwear performance tires, but should still be decent.

The only 1ply tires Ive seen have been cheap cheap ones or the cheap line of brand name tires. One of BFGoodrich's cheap line of tires is just one ply, I felt bad installing them on a customers car...

Colin if you feel like we've hijacked your thread I can split the tire rants off into thier own thread if you want.

I couldn't wait to swap out the garbage RS-As on my Focus wouldn't handle worth shit. I picked up the Goodyear assurance triple tread in 215/65-15 on the town car. handles great and is the best rated tire Goodyear offers.

I've been running kumhos and falkens on the mazda, I've been quite pleased. I put some BFG's on the wagon and haven't been to happy-especially with the $800 pricetag and the fact that they are half worn, and I've only put like 10K on em. And I have restrainted myself from doing burnouts just because of the price.

Although some claim that Goodyear RSa's are good, I would disagree. Granted, the ones I have experienced may be slightly dried out. But their dry traction is horrendous; I can't imagine the wet traction. They seem to be okay in cornering; but under straight line accleration, from a stop, they go up in smoke.

I run Michelin X Radial Lt's on my car in the winter. They are M/S, but they are still lousy in the snow. They have excellent tread life, but poor wet traction. Dry traction is acceptable for my car. They were a good price, and like I said, they last for a long time; good wear, etc.

I also have a set of Yoko Avid S/T's. A nice tire, for the price. They are cheap, but the contruction appeared to be good. Good dry traction, and wet traction seems fair as well. I've never used them in the winter, so I can't comment on the snow traction. Unfortunately, the tires I have are kind of big on the 15's wheels; they are basically balloons. I would never expect them to provide better cornering being as balloon like as they are.

One thing to note, is that the RS-A has come OE on many cars, with Goodyear tuning them for what the OE requires. For a while, I thought that anyone praising the RS-A was nuts, due to my limited experience with them OE on Maximas, 200SXs, and also the Audi A4 forums. A quick call to my guy at the Tire Rack confirmed several different tread compounds in just the 225-60-16 size. Several years ago, I put some Lexus-spec Dunlop SP Sport 4000s on my Mom's Infiniti, and despite the harsh reviews of this being a loud tire, they were whisper-quiet.

Very interesting about the different compounds in the RS-A. My neighbor works for a place that sells tires and looked at mine for some particular designation, presumably having to do with the compound. Shows what I know about tires. Maybe one of these days I'll bug him for more info.

You know, if we all put on some dog crap 215-70-15s we would all have a lot more fun slipping and sliding around. It would be nice driving the car at 9/10ths while still under the speed limit and suggested limits on the on/off ramps. Is there a 195-80-15 out there?

OE tires and replacement tires arent the same, even if its the same brand and such. OE tires generally speaking are shit. You can buy the same make and model tire from a tire shop and it'll feel different.

                          Weirdness!

BTW, I checked my sidewall again and it's the designation "97V" the guy was commenting on. That was his first question about the tires, "Are those 97V's? Yep, they are." Anyone know what that means?

This is true and a damn shame. I'd like some good RWL tires that don't wrinkle and compress a lot when I take turns or bubble out near the bottom just sitting there.
