    Police Upper Control Arm Bushings?

When I took my police car in for a safety a over Christmas, the mechanic said it was in fairly desprite need of front upper control arm bushings. He ordered a set, took the arm off, then discovered I needed screw in bushings, not press in.

I've been looking around at parts stores, suspension part specialists (from Hemmings), and Ford dealers, and no body carries screw in bushings, or even knows what I'm talking about.

Any body know what the purpose is, and more importantly where I could find a set?

Obsolete. The screw in one can be tightened though as long as they aren't wore out that bad.

If they can be adjusted, you can get away with that. You might just want to find a set of civilian arms and replace the bushings and ball joints in those and install them instead.

I was thinking I'll probably have to end up doing that. I'm not comming up with much from any parts source I've tried.

you can tighten them up but grease them often.... replacements are obsolete

another option is to get used 79-91 civilian arms and use poly bushings or new rubber bushings

I can't seem to tighten mine at all. I read something Blaze had posted about tightening them. Even with lots of leverage (and the fact that I'm 230 pounds) they weren't tightening up at all.

I grease mine every oil change, and they seem to be fine. The ones on my '88 were neglected, and now they're dead.

I suppose a machinist could make the bushings, but it'd be cheaper and easier to find civilian arms and replace the bushings with poly bushings, like Scott and MrLTD said.
