Last fall I bought new shocks for my car; Tokico HP series front and back. I never got the opportunity to install them, and unfortunately I bought them without researching what the best shocks for me were. I handed those over to my brother, and he put them on his '88 P72. They're a decent shock, but they don't impress me even with the stock cop springs.
I have been wanting to replace my rear spings and all four shocks now, since last summer. I finally went ahead and replaced the front shocks today. It was 20*F out, so it was as good a day as any to do it, right? Fortunately it only takes 20 minutes.
I bought Monroe Reflex rear shocks (for an F150), but I haven't put them on. Some wagon springs as well, also not installed (maybe Sunday). For the front shocks, I bought AFCO's. I wasn't going to, but I figure I will probably be replacing the front springs this summer, so why not? They are nice, but they don't look very impressive, and they are only slightly better than my stock, arguably clapped out, cop shocks. I thrashed it good this afternoon and didn't notice any major differences in ride quality, etc.
The shocks below are my old ones. last fall I promised MrLTD that OEM police shocks have a beefier rod, and are not just a larger damping coefficient (which he later agreed to). So here is the evidence...
These are the originals, with 125K on them; they aren't gas charged either. They are mushy on the downstroke, but damn near impossible to pull on the upstroke (with your hands). They weren't leaking, so I think I'll hang onto them, in case these AFCO's don't work out.
Anyway, thats that. I have an emissions test at 3:45; wish me luck...
