    AFCO shocks: will these work?

I've looked at Monroe's page for compressed/ extended lengths. They list the stock replacement as being 9.25 compressed, and 14.375 (5.125" travel) extended. These (AFCO's) are supposedly 10.5 compressed, and 15.5 extended (5" travel). But, AFCO's page says they are 9.375 compressed, and 13.375 extended. I am inclined to believe the manufacturer more than Summit.

I will call AFCO if need be to get the truth. But, my question is, could I use these, or would the risk of bottoming out (or running out of travel) be too much of a concern for me.

Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

What you NEED to do is go under your car and measure the ride hieght and look at how the stock shock fit and how much extension and compression they have.

I went with a MUCH longer shock on my car because I was lifting the inside rear tire on turns because the shocks had barely and inch of extension from ride hieght.

Jesus, you don't have to yell.

I am only worried about these shocks for the front suspension. I already know what I'm doing for the rear.

To take measurements, I should try and measure (approximate) the compressed length of the shock, with a jack under the the lower control arm, thus compressing the shock?

Then I should jack the car from the front cross member (until the the suspension falls all the way down) and determine the necessary extended length?

Not sure how easy that will be to do. I am going to leave the stock front springs for now.

Any idea what the spring rate for those would be? I don't see that in the stickied thread.

Stock front PI springs should be 700 lb/in. Honestly, both torquelover and I are doing okay with our $20 Gabriel Ultras on the front. :p (my old SensaTracs were so far gone that I bottomed very easily and ANYTHING was a huge improvement!)

Well, I actually have the Tokico HE 3667 shocks for the front. I've had them for quite some time now. They are an "HP" series shock, so they should be pretty decent. I just saw the Afco's and wondered if they'd be better.

Since I think I am going to go with CC's in the rear (leaving the fronts; at least for now) I think I'll go with the 150 shocks.

The 1021 is a softer version of the 1020 which both turbo and I am/ have run. Should be fine. What springs are you running on the front?

                      Racial stuff????? Eh?????

Yeah, I should have specified that they were for the front. I will be using the stock front springs for now (maybe a change later). The 1021 is good? Or is it too stiff for my DD use?

Dunno, the 1020's are pretty damn stiff, especially with the 1000lb springs I have. The stock shocks are probably equivalent to afco's soft or medium valving.

The Tokicos should be fine for your current setup....

The "racial " stuff I was joking about "jesus" is used for hispanics names.... and since I am somewhat hispanic I was just trying to push some buttons....

                            Not a problem

I actually have been considering getting the softer ones.
