    Hubcap squeak ?

    Ok im running 225/70/R15 100s X4

I have aftermarket hubcaps. And they squeak ?
Every rotation on my tires Front and Back DR side. I get one squeak as a certain spot his 6 o'clock.

I have checked the air pressure ( every ten degrees under 70* you loose a PSI right ? ) So ford sticker wants 36 I give it 38 on COLD undriven tires.

I also check my hubcaps for proper fitment and alignment.

    Any thoughts ?

make sure the metal retainig ring that holds the cap on is not loose or rusted

It happens. The dog dishes on my Vic did the same thing. The wheels flexed just enough while rolling to make the cap squeak/crunch. I wonder if heavy grease on the hubcap retaining fingers would help you? What do you think about 98+ 16" steels with small center caps?

I think that would be neat.

Wouldn't the grease make it easier for the cap to slip off though?

i've had the same problem.. either get different rims or sand the ones you have all down and repaint them with black rustoleum. if your rims are fine its the caps that need to be tweaked, check the teeth/tabs out on the caps and make sure they are all bent the same.

Upon closer inspection I have noticed my Passenger Rear tire is NOT mounted correctly. But I have had the same tire for 1.5-2 years now. And I prolly rotate them TOO often...

I have had the wife drive past me at 2 MPH. And I can locate the squeak on a particular wheel....Man if it would quit raining I could mark that spot and check the hubcap. It sounds like a wet shoe ....Its THE most ridiculous irritating simple problem I have ever had....

It's the nature of those caps, get used to it. Factory ones definitely do it, if the aftermarket ones are like them, they will too.

I had that problem for a while. Solved it with some chrome lugnuts and silver wheel paint.

Hey, if you can make it to Ann Arbor, we can get Wal-Mart rattlecans and do a flat-black job on a budget!

I solved the hubcap squeak...Its was where I had them ! Turns out placing them on the car made them squeak...But when I placed them on the floor of my garage and went back to the car...Squeak is gone.

Besides I had to go to Detroit for jury duty today and I didnt want some cabbie swiping them.

The jury duty go well, I hope? I would imagine Detroit courts could be kind of scary.
