    suspension questions

    ok, i was wondering, are there any differences in the rear control arms between a panther and a mustang?

    for instance, summit sells replacement control arms for the rear axle, some are adjustable, pretty much all are better than stock. would i be able to use them on the marq or no?

    also, are the front brakes on a panther the same as those on a fox? would it be possible to use a big brake kit for a fox body?

    pretty sure thats a big no on both...

    big brakes swap from a 98-02 panther - from there you can use new mustang brake stuff IIRC

      the rear arms fit panthers only 79-97
      big brakes are from a 98-02 panther......dual piston calipers and huge rotors......the mustang spindles are entirely different, you would be throwing money away to try fox mustang brakes

      1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

        the panther control arms are about 3" longer than a mustang. i have never measured but a set of mustang lower arms might be close to our uppers, but i doubt it

          the uppers are also shorter from what I remember.

          energy suspension rear control arm bushings for a 92-97 work on the box arms.

            the front stock brakes are basically the same as lincoln mark vii brakes, but they have a different offset. spindle design is totally different tho because of the strut setup.

              ok, yeah, i read the sticky in here, but i wasnt sure about mustang brakes....kinda doubted they would work, but it was worth asking.

              as for the suspension, i havent seen any mention on that on here so i had no idea lol

                ok, just came across a guy with a 96 popo intercepter. would the rear end from that (with discs) fit my gm??

                  yup sure will. You don't need the whole rear though. The discs brake setup bolts on.

                  The 92+ rears are wider by like 1" or so. I've been debating getting one to add some rear track width.

                    well, if i get the whole rear, i can freshen everything up before i bolt it in. clean it, maybe paint it, bearings, fluid, etc. all much easier when its not under the car lol. not sure if it has lsd or not though. would there be any tags on the axle to check, or is the axle code the same on the door in all years?

                      tag on the axle, and the AX code on the door. if the rear is out, just look at the tag.

                        ok, what should i expect to pay? i do know it is a high milage car, ex-popo, used by taxi after that. finally released from service.

                          It's gonna need axles and axle bearings. 50 bucks incuding ALL the brake parts is the max I'd pay....
