    first snow storm

so it was the first reall snow storm of winter here and the first storm ive driven in with my merc and with a rwd car. i was taking my cousin home and found that the merc didnt stop well at all and had no traction from a stop. i checked the tires and put 35 psi in them and they still sucked.

so im thinking bout getting mark VII rims with new tires and a 3.55 LSD. i need better traction and i think this could help. i do need new shocks which ill do soon and put some weight in the trunk as well.

you guys think this will help and be good info for others?

get a set of truck mud tires in the size of 225/75r15 or 235/70 or 75r15s. more aggressive tread helps in the snow i learned here where i live. one 50 lbs bag of sand is all i needed...anything more and it was worse.

Best thing is good tires and a couple hundred pounds of wieght in the trunk.

We just had our first official dusting here. I was lazy this weekend so I didn't drive in it. However, my brother needed a change of underwear after driving home in his GTO last night. His car spun around and he was door to door with another car, luckily he didn't hit anything. My car has pretty large tires, don't recall the exact size off hand but they are Aquatread III's. They seem to do pretty well in the snow. Will work on getting some weight in the trunk once I finish the Por15 and put the carpet back in.

the 3.55s and POSI will make a difference...I can testify to that.

Simple just get some soft rubber compound snow tires the same size as the front and keep fuel in the car min half. this is what i do for the vic and i have never had a problem

Get a set of snow tires with studs in them. And if you got stock wheels, then keep them because thinner tires go better in snow. Get a limited slip rear end (with 3.27s aren't bad) and you should have no trouble.

Nothing stops for crap on snow and ice. Allow lots of stopping distance, make sure you have good tires with plenty of tread, and go easy on the pedals. Some extra weight in the trunk will help, and a traction lock will also help if you're careful. If you romp the gas tho, the trac-lock will probably make you spin out faster.

And wider isn't better in the snow...Some truck tread tires in the stock 205/ 215 width in either 70/75 aspect would be the best. Of course, snow tires work well also.

yea. i know wider tires arent better but the stock sized tires i got now dont do crap in the snow so i need soemthing else. i got the springs and shocks in the rear on so i can add a little wieght for the next storm and not worry bout the rear sagging.

well i just had the pleasure of moving my 86 vic I converted to ho out of the driveway so i could clear snow.. omfg it sucked, the car would not move more than an inch even on flat surface and this was on a freshly plowed street with like a quarter inch of snow on the ground.

i think i did one to many burnouts this summer!!

Amusingly my bone stock 91 did great. The car was completely covered, all that I could see was the antenna. I dug out the passenger side door, climbed in and was able to drive out through the plowed snowbank. That car had an open rear also, did much better than the trac lock equipped 87 ever did
