    its crooked, wtf?

I was poking around my car today looking at the tire on the passenger side where it hits the fender, and I noticed its pushed outward relative to the fender a lot more than the driver's side. I got out the tape measure, and sure enough, the body is actually pushed towards the driver's side by almost 3/4 of an inch up front in front of the radiator support. Its over by about 1/4" in the back behind the rear tires. The body mounts are dead, but they aren't visibly skewed nearly enough to explain almost 3/4". The car has never been hit as far as I know. All sheetmetal is original, and the frame has no structural damage. Could the frame be tweaked that far out of square that it would actually be off center from the body without the body mounts being massively distorted? How the heck do I fix this?

go over to the driver side fender right behind the header panel. Shove your hip into it. Problem fixed. LOL

My front end moves around more than that when I lean over to work in the engine bay. Though the body mounts may not show it, there is room for it to slide on them and it does.

tried that, it doesn't move back unfortunately. Its kind of annoying, I pretty much can't have passengers in the car because even an average sized person is enough to make the tire start catching on the fender on right turns. The wheel well trim is all screwed up now, and the fender lip is bent out of shape. I wonder if I can get a come-along in there behind the header panel and hook it to a sturdy spot on the rad support and to the frame on the opposite side and pull the body back the other way. Hmmmmm.

You do know that most other people actually replace the frame bushings on race cars, don't you? Is the only area of work you are sloppy in?

Or that they are all discontinued..... It's actually been a pretty recent topic.

And I am sloppy in more places than not.

Gee, thought with all of that technical expertise, you would have figured out another way....the first chinks in the armor?

Yeah, sounds like bodymounts. There is a HUGE gap between the rubber mount and the ID of the frame mount. There is about 1/2" of open space, so 3/4" can easily be had.

So what would you have to do to replace the body mounts? For future references.

Either go with a universal mount that is close but not quite the same size, or custom make one.

basically, unbolt them all, jack the body up, and pull the old mounts out. its basically just a nut, bolt, washer, and big rubber donut looking thing combo.

Think I might be able to loosen them up, pull the body back where it belongs with the come-along, then tighten them back up as a temporary measure? I want to replace them but right now I don't have the cashflow or time to do it.

It doesn't sound too hard to do to replace those.
