Well i tried getting the bearings off using a puller with no luck, finally just cut them off per scotts suggestion. Was able to hammer the bearings on part way with a bearing driver set, then tried putting the differential sideways on a jack then under the car to press them on with the cars weight. Didn't work, was able to finally hammer them on the rest of the way though. Will be finishing this project up on monday or tuesday.

Are you replacing pinion bearings as well?

nope, didn't want to touch that with a ten foot pole. no obvious signs of wear or anything, hell the other bearings were in fine shape but i figured i would replace them while i was in there and they are easy (at least compared to the pinion stuff).

How were the axles? Did you have to replace those too or were the bearing surfaces in good shape?

drivers side one was fine, the other was a little pitted. I should have a good second good one in the axle that i'm removing to use.

I know they say the pass. side axles are always worn a little worse...don't totally remember the explanation now. When I did my ring and pinion swap I found both axles slightly worn, but not enough to warrant replacing. The axle bearings are quiet and it doesn't leak any lube, so I can't complain.

Finally got the axle out yesterday. One damn control arm bolt was stuck, tried everything to get it off, finally had to just cut it. I want to get the control arms out today and burn out the old bushings, and hopefully get everything at least half way put back together, then finish tomorrow.
