    Interesting spare tire I found.

while moving some old rims and tires around, I came across mini-spare. Never seen one like it before. It has a normal, Ford passenger car bolt pattern. turned it over and confirmed its a 16X4 mini spare. I assume it came off the 87 CP wagon thats sitting out in the field.

I haven't bolted it up on the car yet, but I suspect this will clear my big brakes on the front of the car. I was worried about that since they require 16" rims and all I have is the stock 15" full size steel rim.

BTW... the part # stamped on the inside of the wheel is actualy an engineering #

I called a couple of my buddies at the Ford parts counters and none of them could get it to pull up in their systems.

hmm...oddly enough, I have a picture of a '68 Mustang GT on my desk here and that wheel looks identical to the wheels in the picture...hmmm...

I remember reading about spare wheels a lot like that when Car Craft was building up a drag-race Fox Mustang on the cheap. I think their four-lug aluminum spare was a solid disk and 15" in diameter, and they got hold of a second one and mounted up a set of M/T Front Runners.

I had no idea Panthers ever used anything except stock-size steel wheels for spares, even if they were fitted with a temporary tire. Were these aluminum spares a common option, or standard for certain years?
