    Any Explorer 8.8" parts useable??

If by some miracle I actually get that 2dr off Ebay I need to change the rear end gears. I got the axle code ( Y code ) and found out it's a 3.08 open diff.

Anyways I've got a 97 Explorer rear diff sitting in my garage. It has disc brakes, 3.73 gears and a trac-loc.

My question is what can I use off it for the CV 8.8". Will the disc brakes work? and how about the gears? I believe the Explorer rear diff has 31 spline axles so the trac-loc won't be useable. Anyone know for sure??

you can use the gears, the brakes may work, but hooking up the parking brake might be a problem.

....The brakes do bolt up. Parking brake setup is different. Can't remember the spline count on them. The V8 ones might be the only ones with 31 spline.

This Explorer diff is out of a V8. Too bad the axles wouldn't swap over. Then I could have 31 spline axles in the CV.

The Explorers have an offset center section so only one axle would fit(if it measures right ). I'll do some measuring though and check the Explorer axles.

I found a local salvage yard that has a 3.73 geared crown vic rear diff(Open not trac-loc ) for $125.00 So I'll probably just pic up the whole diff.

Yeah, I know they are offset, still easier than getting a limo rear if the axles are the same length.

That doesn't sound right... Never seen a vic with a factory 3.73...

The 3.73 geared diff is supposedly out of a 95 Grand Marquis with ABS.

Could it have been a special order item? They have it listed as a 3.73 that's all I know. And they usually check the stuff out. They are the ones I bought my Explorer diff from.

3.55 is the lowest ratio offered. It is possible it is not stock.
