So that's where the slop was coming from...

Pulled the steering wheel off and was looking at the adapter. Swapped the stock wheel back on. Then went to grant's site and looked up the adapter for the fords. Newer design and it had a spring in it. So I went to Advance and picked up a new adapter. Still has about an inch of play in the whole steering, but it feels so much better now. Before when I hit a bump the wheel would bounce and it felt horrible. It's amazing how much tighter the car feels with the one little thing fixed.

With my quick release there is some slop in the splines, figured out that i could eliminate it by butting an o-ring on the back side of the wheel, that would hold it tight to the shaft.

The shaft is tapered at the top, where it goes into the upper bearing. Without the preload the tapered section is inside the bearing and then you get the slop.

I actual kinda like the stock wheel.... The placement is better than the grant I have. Stock is closer to the dash.

I don't remember Scott putting a spring in there...I think the spring is for the horn button.

Mine has some dish to it too. It's alright tho cuz it's smaller and how I have my seats I sit pretty low.

eighter the rag joint or the gearbox itself is casuing my slop. it feels so strange cause my zx2 has super-tight steering.. absolutley NO slop whatsoever. damn rack & pinions..

Mine has a new rag joint and a near new box. Still has an inch of play in the wheel. feels nice though, has on great on center feel.
