    Trans question...

I was wondering if the AOD in our cars can be upgraded cheaply with a Mustang specific valve body and a mild Torque converter? Nothing trying to make it super quick, but if I could firm up the shifts AND extended the rpm before it shifts that would be great. I do plan on upgrading the entire trans with a Monster rebuild kit in the future but for now was thinking if this would work.

I believe the mustang governor would provide an extra 500 rpm before shift on WOT although the stock cam wont really put much farther anyways. A higher stall with a torque converter wouldn't necessarily provide firmer shifts, but only create more heat and put it further in it's powerband even though the stock is well paired with the stock cam. A shift kit would create firmer shifts assuming you dont screw up the drilling and install. A new valvebody would be the best idea.

The stock shift scheduling is kind of lame, and the torque converter stalls very low. The stock engine has a very low peak torque rpm though, so its not inappropriate for it. With an engine that will turn a couple rpm or has a higher rpm torque peak, it would do well with a higher stall converter.

So the short answer is yes. Silverfox makes a nice valve body.

Ive done the shift kit route as well as the higher revving governor. Just get a silver fox valve body and be done with it. Save the money and hassle and just get the right thing to begin with.

That's why i was asking...didn't know some one already made a worthy usable valve body.

Its the route I should have went. Ultimately going manual transmission with my car now.

Yeah i don't wanna go manual..not that I'm against them but that's not what my dad and I talked about years ago. Also for the price of that silver fox VB....dude at 275 bucks I'll be ordering one before the end of the month!

He has one with an electric overdrive lock out option too. I have one in my Mark VII. Haven't hooked up the OD lockout yet, and it needs adjustment to get the 1-2 shift where it belongs but it seems promising. I stuck it in there to fix a problem that cropped up after a shift kit install lost most of the gears. I have 4 speeds now but I never spent the time to dial it in and the car has been otherwise occupied for some time now.

That's probably because the valve body that's in your Mark was set up for my vic haha. I love my silverfox valve body. I've never driven another AOD that shifted so crisp.

Maybe, but that 3200 rpm 1-2 shift at full throttle sucks ballsack and it needs to be adjusted. I don't think the motor in your car is enough different to make the shift points that screwed up. The 2-3 is fine.

My 1991 GM trans is slipping while going into 4th and now, while on hills, it slips going into 3rd. If I need a rebuild, is there a known kit that is longer lasting than the stock Ford stuff? I'm not looking for performance enhancement, just want some quality parts.

Yeah damn it, noticed the trans in my "new" car isn't as tight as the other one was, even though it's got way less miles. Even has the brass bushing in it when I got it, but who knows how long the shitty one was in there before that happened. Oh well, may just order the silver fox VB, goddamn it...

In the air. Either TKO of some sort or a new t5z. Hurst shifter. Weary about the tko because of tranny cross member modifications.

I've heard wonderful things about the A5 Astro transmissions, especially those build in the G-Force cases - near indestructible and rated to up and above 650hp.
