So...someone suggested an HO swap. Worth it?

The Explorer's mileage depends on a lot more than just the engine. Rear end gearing, aerodynamics, tires, etc. It would be pretty silly to not do the complete engine swap for just that reason.

That's not the only reason. There's also the reliability factor, margin for error, weight, cost, etc. With a conversion, you can clean the thing out and make sure everything looks and works like it should. If I just slap a whole engine in there I'm kind of at its mercy. Might just make things worse.

That and I have no way to store or transport an entire engine block. My only option is to borrow my mom's pickup and disassemble it over there, then take the parts home with me and put them in the shed.

If that shop is charging you 1600 to do pistons in that I'll do it for a grand. That's insane

If you're anywhere within driving distance, that'd be great.

well, you don't just chuck a used engine in and hope. The used engine should be checked over to make sure you're not installing a turd.

I have a complete 5.0 HO engine in my 90 Grand Marquis, that means the distributor, cam, crank and plug wires are all HO configured. The PCM is E8SF-V1A. The fuel injector timing is the only difference so the fuel injector pins are the only thing that need to be swapped over.

Have you done this? What is a D9S and when you say it won't work what do you mean?

BTW my car has been running for 3 weeks now.

Update - We took the pcm out of the Mark VII and put it in the GM, changed the injector pins back in their proper place in the harness and started it up and it idles good. Will let you know how it drives.

BTW the processors in the car were 8KF's, if I put a D9S in there what does this number mean as I was always told to look for the other numbers (suffix, prefix) Can anyone flash these three processors I have to a D9S and if so, what is the cost?

Still, I'd prefer to be as sure as possible that it wouldn't have any problems. And even if I wanted to swap a whole block, I really can't.
