Stamped steal valve covers keep failing at the gasket. Is there any difference between gt40 and gt40p valive covers looking for a nice aluminum set in black. Thanks for the help.

not so far as I know. Same gaskets, same cover bolt pattern.
The only stamped steel covers I've ever found to be worth a crap are the lopo OEM covers. they are nice and thick, everything else bends and leaks, especially without load spreaders and if even slightly over-torqued.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I’ve noted the SEFI covers are a little different around the edges compared to the earlier valve covers, but haven’t had an issue with either sealing. FWIW, I’ve got ‘79 valve covers on GT40 heads and no issues.
If a valve cover was over torqued, it might be warped and it won’t seal right. Regarding gaskets, I prefer the FelPro PermaDry gaskets for these cars, too. They’ve got a metal carrier for the gasket and can be reused when tightened correctly.

I have a set of steel Ford Motorsport valve covers on my 85 two door. Seem to sealing fine.
