      ugly plastic

It's just ugly . if you need to use cheap stuff id go with flexable exhaust tubing and a heat reflective pipe wrap then some sort of cone filter with something to deflect water. darn I wish I had a digi camra

When I get a new car i'm gonna make a CAI out of PVC. I redid alot of the plumbing in my house from copper to PVC, so I think I can handle making a CAI out of it. And if it's painted then it doesn't look bad, besides in my opinion it looks good so i'm gonna do it.

In order to make a REALLY good CAI, use stainless 3" exhaust pipe..

            It can be polished...

I had 4" but i didint polish I forgot to do that.. for Ram Air use two peaces of pipe and a hole saw then cut a hole in the inner fender and run the pipe thru the hole to the front and make a scoop of some kind.

Yeah...Speaking of a way to deflect water...What's a cheap and easy way to make a splash guard for a cone air filter?

Exactly what I was thinking. I call them "hot air intakes"..lol
Kenne Bell will NOT warranty their blowers with a "CAI". And that is after the intercoolers, etc.

I'm not knocking anybody...the numbers speak for themselves. Many people have found that it helps MPGs as well as SOTP. Probably worth HP.
Just not my choice. I just don't see where it's sucking cold air from. I mean, you've got the 180 degree radiator right there...the ABS module(if equipped) which, heck if you're autocrossing then it probably gets warm, the RAS air compessor right under it, the 600 degree exhaust manifols, the radiant block heat, the belt friction heat....
Just my opinion but I'd rather have a little less of the right kind of air(cold)for free then pay for more of the wrong kind(hot). Wish someone made(maybe I should make one...lol)some kind of ram-air box that those conical filters fit into, but with a snout that would truly islolate the nice cool intake air from the crappy power-robbing engine bay air...

The stock intake draws in about the coolest possilble air correct? Besides having a tube that runs to the bottom of the bumper, the stock setup looks to be located fairly well, no?

I mentioned earlier in this thread, I posted my "old intake" pic. I have a great idea for my new intake to addresses the "heat problem". I just don't know if it will sell.

I'm planning on fab'ing up a sheetmetal box for mine which will isolate the filter from the raidiant heat of the engine bay,and only let in the outside air, also gonna get some heat shielding for the pipe.

I'll help you guys out. Here's a tip, use plastic. Here's another tip, "Plastic can be welded"!!! That's all I'm saying.

Yes,but with sheetmetal I can just have it bent into the correct shape and not even have to bother with welding or gluing anything, just drilling.
