A cop car will very likely have the same shit as yours, now a cop-owned car is a different animal - I got my catless H-pipe setup off a cop-owned Grand Marquis, the car had all the goodies an interceptor would have + some extras (an HO motor and the aforementioned custom-bent dual catless exhaust).

A Mustang H pipe is up front, and contains the catalytic converters. It also won't bolt to the stock Panther manifolds, so you'll need either aftermarket Mustang shorty headers, or stock headers from a Mustang or Mark VII. A Panther H bolts behind the cats. The stock H pipe necks down to 2" literally an inch ahead of the flanges. You could have an exhaust shop cut the cat pipes just ahead of the stock flanges, install larger ones, and make up a 2.25" H pipe to run behind the stock cats. This will let you keep the stock manifolds.
I wouldn't suggest snagging used exhaust parts since most of the time you'll be getting 10-15 year old garbage thats ready to fall apart. Either have a larger H pipe made and keep your stock catalytic converters, or ditch the entire existing exhaust, use headers, an H or X designed for a Mustang (X pipes work fine), and piping back from that point. It will be more work if you're doing an engine back exhaust, and more money however you'll end up with bigger exhaust. Honestly, if you're running a stock motor, having a 2.25" H pipe made up, and installing better mufflers and possibly larger over-axle pipes will do you just fine. Stock Impala tails are 2.25" and will work well for you.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Thanks for the explination Gadget. I've been browsing around and I found a set of FRPP headers that claim they will bolt to a stock exhaust, so I'm assuming the collectors are 2.25"? If I bought these, I'd probably run a Mustang H-pipe with the Impy tails. Does anyone have any suggestions as to different headers or good aftermarket H or X pipes?Nick

Just buy the Flowmaster mufflers and piece the rest of the exhaust together. I went with a custom X-Pipe (welded on), "original" Flowmaster 40-series mufflers, Impala SS tail pipes and Maruader tips on my car. I LOVE that sound!!!

Will bolt to stock exhaust on what? Mustangs or a Vic? Most Mustang shorty headers will technically bolt to stock exhaust.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Sorry, they meant stock exhaust on a Mustang. I guess I'm going with a set of shorty headers, stock Mustang H with new cats, and Impy 2.25" tails. Other than the FRPP's, what are some other good headers?Nick
