    No start condition II

Having an issue with Fire And Ice. I drive her around town and make four or five stops, then she won't start for like ten minutes. When I turn the key on, I don't hear the fuel pump spin up. Is it the TFI module or temp sensor or what? I'm stumped. It usually only happens on a hot day.

    Thanx for the help.

My worst enemies are those who presume me to be harmless. They cannot imagine how much I resent and disdain them, or just how great a threat they would face if I could get at them. Everything in their behavior speaks of insult and presumptuousness, and for now it is all I can do to make constructive use of my anger toward them. At this time, I just make a list of them and keep a watch on. Some day, with the help of time, space, and circumstance, I will be able to humiliate them properly - not in a manner they would enjoy, but in a style calculated to make them wish that they had never been born.

I thought the TFI controls only the ignition and timing (advance and stuff), and not the fuel pump. Do a test - unplug the TFI and turn the key to "ignition on" (don't start the engine), if you hear the fuel pump spinning then the TFI is probably not the cause.

The fuel pump does actually run off the PIP in the distributor but I don't know if that holds true for that second of pump operation when you first turn the key. See if it has spark when it doesn't want to start. No fire = bad TFI most of the time. When mine died, I was sitting nicely at a stop light, and the car just shut off.

It's definetely firing. Just not getting fuel. And, she never dies on me, just won't start after a bunch of running on a hot day. I have to wait like ten minutes before trying.

Pull the engine codes using a code scanner and post them for us to see.

Hm, maybe replace the fuel pump relay? Could be you're getting due for a new fuel pump. Pump relay is in the trunk mounted to the hinge on the driver's side.

Is the fuel pump overheating a sign of things to come? Sounds like I'm going to have to replace it.

I'll get codes and check the fuel pump relay this wed or thurs.

If its overheating, its prolly about to die. Does it do it more when the fuel level is low vs when the tank is full? If its full, the pump will be submerged which should help take care of the heat, but the fuel pump is almost totally covered in a big rubber condom so it'll hold a fair amount of heat even when in fuel.

Weird. My Sonomas fuel pump just up and died. No warning signs of any kind.

No. And I can't get the codes right now due to having to work 72hrs a week again. I'll probably be able to mess with it in a couple of weeks.
