IF it is a REAL Boss 302 I am always interested.
I have driven 100 miles to look at a smog 302 with a 4V intake on it. Since then, I have learned to ask more and drive less.

As much as i've learned, just like you, I could probably look at one engine pic and really be able to tell you if it is a boss or not.

Of course, there's people who will put cleveland heads on 302s...

Does it have 8 bolt valve covers? The waterneck gonig into the block and not the intake?

If not, its not a boss. I highly doubt it is.

Its got two bolts. that stcik out of it and one bolt in the middle going down on each side. My crown vic has 8 bolts....

The thermostat housing of a Boss 302 is bolted to the intake just like a 302/351W.

There is no 2V carb intake for a Boss 302, so it would take an adapter plate to get a CFI bolted on. The easiest .002 second way to check for Cleveland heads is to look at the exhaust manifold bolts. If you have small manifolds with inline bolts, it isn't a Boss/Cleveland head. If the bolts are staggered at an angle and not inline, you have canted valve heads. The exhaust manifold passages are huge compared to a 302/351W manifold.
There was NO factory car with a Boss 302 motor after 1970. Not even a Super Duper Special Interceptor .

We've had this disscussion on CVN before, and he insists it's a Boss with 8-bolt valve covers.

                    Could be I guess.

Heh, CFI and a Boss... doesn't seem like an ideal combo...

And weren't all '85 PI's 351W VV? A conversion to CFI along with a Boss...

1 Picture of this CV with its 302 showing the valve cover and exhaust manifold would put this to rest.

haha, I vote for standard 302. If someone can prove to me without a doubt that a CFI Boss 302 existed in 1985 I will buy them lunch.

I have built quite a few boss 302s and Boss 351s. A true 302 Boss has screw in freeze plugs on the side of the block. Would look a lot like pic below although this one is a bit over the top.
