Is the smog/air pump hooked up with all of its vacumm lines, hoses, and divertor valves without a pulley or a belt? Its on page 2 and that a big vacumm leak if you didn't plug/cap the vacumm lines and the divertor valves. The smog pump might seize on there without a pulley and a belt so I would remove it, which is easy to do.Current rides - 1991 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 v6 (gas saver/DD) - New Heads/Headgaskets with ARP studs, Air Silencer Delete, 70mm MAF, Plasti-dipped Matte Black with a Silver Metalflake Overlay, Muffler Delete, some LED's, 30.233 MPG for high MPG average!

Remove the pump and the big rubber lines going to it, and put caps over the metal pipes they attach to. Remove the big diverter mess off the fender and plug the vacuum lines to it. Leave the rest alone. The only other smog systems on the car are the evap purge system which sucks fuel vapors from the gas tank and the EGR system which doesn't cause any harm to power and does good things for reducing emissions. Fix your air conditioner too, it can be run without the smog pump simply by using a shorter belt. Also, if the CFI isn't broken, leave it alone.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Allrighty Gadget, ill do that, when u say caps though. What are theese? I never herd of thembefore can i buy them at a parts store? And maybey what size i might need?
And for the cfi your the second person thats told me to leave it alone unless it's broke. So thats what im going to do)
I put a new EGR sensor on the other day and i re set my computer at least i think i did ( Take the negative cable off and press the brake? ) And i ran my codes agine and to no availe my EGR is still bad.
A/C I just need to hook a belt up to it right? I can do that :->
Thanks Gadget,

The belt you need is a 560K6 belt if you plan on running without the air pump. Might want to check the tensioner for the AC/smogpump/crank, they can be loose and worn after 20 years making it harder to put the tight 560k6 belt on. Also, when you take off the smog pump you might want to keep the long bolt and the spacer and screw it back into the engine block. It provides a little extra support for the short belt.
The caps you need are tiny rubber vacumm line caps you can find in autozone or another similar parts store, sometimes they are color-coded. You also need two heater hose caps, one will plug the air divertor valve/metal tubing that you see coming out the back of the passenger side cylinder head, right next to the tranny dipstick tube. The other metal tubing with an air divertor valve will be sticking up in the middle of the passenger side of the engine bay behind the air pump, you can trace the air tubes from the cats to it. The rubber heater hose caps are found in the help section of most parts stores.Current rides - 1991 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 v6 (gas saver/DD) - New Heads/Headgaskets with ARP studs, Air Silencer Delete, 70mm MAF, Plasti-dipped Matte Black with a Silver Metalflake Overlay, Muffler Delete, some LED's, 30.233 MPG for high MPG average!

Also, the egr valve is probably fine, its probably the smog pump that has been disconnected thats causing a problem. The egr valve solenoids and the ecm rely on a steady flow of vacuum to adjust the air/fuel mixture. The smog pump's vacuum measured and controlled through the egr valve solenoids and the brake booster, but the smog pump has been disconnected improperly.
If you still get a code 34, leave it alone as long as gas mileage is fine and the car runs well. If its causing issues, you could have the ports clogged in the CFI tb with carbon. You should clean the egr ports any time you remove the egr valve since alot of carbon tends to build up in there. If you didn't, you could take off the egr valve, buy the $2.00 composite gasket, clean the ports out and put the egr back on.Current rides - 1991 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 v6 (gas saver/DD) - New Heads/Headgaskets with ARP studs, Air Silencer Delete, 70mm MAF, Plasti-dipped Matte Black with a Silver Metalflake Overlay, Muffler Delete, some LED's, 30.233 MPG for high MPG average!

Just plug the holes off. Mine had a brass pipe plug with some of that magic epoxy putty crap around it sealing the holes off. its common for them to rot, and if you aren't running the smog pump there is no point in having the lines. It just creates an exhaust leak if the holes aren't sealed off.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
