how hard is it to put a HO in a '84 vicky that is set up for a throtle body?? and what all would i have to do to the wiring and fuel system to do it???? is it even realy possible and or worth the effort???? or would it be easyer to just supe up the stock 5.0L that i've got?? and if thats the best option what would you recomend? let's not get carried away i don't need a 9 second crown vick. i just need some better pep.

An 84 is a CFI car. A carb swap is easiest, however if you need emissions or decent milage then you would need to do the H.O. EFI set up. you will need both manifolds, computer, harness, fuel system, maybe the distributor. Im not entirely sure ive never doen a HO swap.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

get a 5.0 HO out of a 87 or an 88 mustang (with the GOOD TRW forged pistons and stuff) and bolt it right in there. You have to get the computer from a speed density HO motor (mustang or Mark VII if you want cruise control), and that bolts right in with 1 nut under the dash. I'm not entirely sure but I think the motor mounts are the same thus it bolts right in. You could run a carb or just go with the SEFI that the 87 or 88 motor will already have (better idea for reliability of the stock motor and to lessen computer issues). Hardest part would be the throttle cable and TV cable configuration to an actual throttle body instead of that CFI bracket you have in there now. You might need a mustang harness to run the fuel injectors and other sensors also.1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

I think the ECM is different for HO CFI vs non-HO CFI. 85CrownHPP did some research on this, and I think he found the HO CFI stuff is all the same except the ECM itself.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Only if doing an HO SEFI swap. If going HO CFI, the rod can be re-used. CFI unit is the same.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

So what needs to be done to swap in a HO into an EFI engine? Is there a write up somewhere already? If not, what needs to be done? One more thing, is the stock lower intake compatable with a HO upper intake?88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

Use the stock Panther fuel rail with the 19 lb injectors
Use a Panther water pump
Use the HO (351w) firing order on the plug wires
change the ECM to the one from the HO car (we'll assume a Mark VII for simplicity)
Install the HO upper intake with a 1/2-3/4" spacer to clear the fuel rail and point it like the stock intake.
This part is the only potentially problematic area:
Have the stock Panther EGR spacer bored out
or
use an EGR spacer off an HO car with the throttle, cruise, and TV cables from the HO car along with thhe bracket. The cables end up routed backwards this way
or
find a Lightning EGR spacer. Good luck on that one.
Use the HO throttle body. If using a panther or lightning EGR, grind the shaft down on the throttle body to get the lever off it. Swap it with the original one off the car.
Thats pretty much it. I'm sure there is some detail somewhere I forgot but thats it for the most part.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

what i have is an '86 -'88 lincon mark with the regular fuel injection like this.and i was wanting to put it in a car with the crappy thing that looks like a carb but is fuel injected.would i have to replace the entire wiring harness and fuel system? or is it easier than that?sigpic"I love it when a plan comes together." raser - the fuel system should be usable, but you will need the computer, the whole harness, and every doodad that plugs into it.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Yup, you guys saying he can't put an EFI HO into a CFI car are a little off. The fuel system is already high pressure (though you really should swap a bigger fuel pump in) so as Pete mentioned, you need the whole wire harness and ECM from a EFI car to do the EFI HO swap.

I'd suggest snagging the wiring harness from a Crown Vic and using that vs trying to use the harness from the Mark VII. The stuff should already be in mostly the right place and it will make the swap a lot easier.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
