    Transmission HELP

Hey guys, I'm having an issue and I was hoping someone could offer some suggestions as to what it might be/cost...basically when in OD or D, my car only accelerates for the first inch or so I push the pedal down. If I "floor it" or even accelerate gently past that point, the engine just revs and the car doesn't go any faster. It's almost the same feeling as being in N and revving the engine. Sorta like maybe something in my transmission isn't "grabbing." I'm not very mechanically inclined, but this sounds expensive...any feedback would be appreciated.
89 Grand Marquis LS with 107K miles (as of 1/13/07). As proof of my undying love, I've invested:
    - New exhaust
    - Front brakes
    - Rebuilt tranny
    - New vinyl top
    - Alternator & Battery
    - And still going.

I've been a member of the "My TV cable grommet broke" club for about two weeks now. I Can't Drive 55!!! I can still spin the right rear tire from a stop and use Reverse. I'm just going to slip a used AOD in there for now.

Take your car to a transmission shop and weigh your options. Oh yeah, don't forget to bring your wallet.

Yeah, unfortunately it sounds like they're right. Have a look underneath the throttle lever there and see if there is a cable dangling under it.. If you're amazingly lucky you might get away with replacing the grommet, but don't count on it.

Sounds like you're screwed (like me, exact thing happened). I've looked into a ton of options and unfortunately price and quality are not connected when it comes to tranny repair. Still scheming as to how to get the most bang for the buck. Good luck.

If fluid smells like burnt toast it probably is.

The wasted AOD is like the slow protege on the mazda site. It's just something you gotta deal with.

Mazda's saving grace is most of their cars handle awesome, or so say the reviewers. It makes up for their lack of power.

They do handle well, way too much for the engine in fact. I blew mine from oil starvation on windy backroads. So sad...

                            Thanks

Yeah y'all were right - it was the grommet, and I took the thing to a local shop. The guy actually carries the modern version of that grommet in stock because this nonsense happens so often! Anyway, I put the grommet in but of course, it was too late - the guy is going to rebuild my tranny; his estimate is "low teens" for the job. I figure my car just turned 100k the other day, so it's a worthwhile investment, especially since it's my "toy" car, not my everyday trooper. Anyway, thanks for the advice - I could kick Ford in the ass for putting that garbage grommet in there!

                            - And still going.
