    185 vs 195

What is the advantage of running a 195 Vs a 185 Thermostat? or vice versus.

Seems I have a 185 since I am running at about 183 on mine.

You might be able to crank up timing a bit without pinging.

I like the 195, personally. My car seems to run best at that temp and gets the best fuel mileage.

In theory the engine should be operating more efficiently when its hotter, and with less wear. In reality, the 195 might show pinging issues with more timing advance. 5.0 engines usually don't have ping problems with stock or several degrees more than stock timing, but once in a while one turns up that just sounds like a can of marbles for no obvious reason (my car).

Well, after learning to read a temp guage it appears I am running a 195.

Mine likes to hang out around 200 with a 195 stat. No pinging with 12* advance on a P motor.

Everyone can run advance but me it seems. Either my balancer is whacked and I'm running at like 15 degees already, or the motor just sucks. I'm leaning on the motor just sucking. Someday I'll have time and cash to change the heads for ones that aren't garbage.
