    Thermostat...

    How do you replace the damn thing? I think mine is getting sticky so I bought a new 97*F one, went to change it today and realized the bottom bolt of the housing is so nicely tucked behind the waterpump - how do I go for it without pulling the air intakes plenums or the waterpump out?

    It's a bitch, but it can be done with a socket. Maybe someone else has a better tecnique.

      I usually replace the bolts with reduced hex bolts like header bolts that have a smaller hex. It makes it a lot easier the next time. I believe most tof mine are 5/16 heads.

        What abotu using a socket head cap screw? Then you can use a ball-end hex key to remove it. That or build a 351.

          Special Thermostat housing tool.....you just need to get the 1/2" version.

            I've been meaning to get a set of wrenches like the one on Mercracer's pic, guess now I really have a good reason to, lol

              my ratchet wrenches have flexheads.......would reccomend yhe ones with the reversible lever

              1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

                I got a set of those recently, oh mah gawd they rock!!!

                You can do it with a regular boxed end wrench too, if you have the patience of a buddhist monk

                  A shot of my goose neck. The bolt head is 7/16. The smaller wrench is easier to fit in the limited area. Rotating the distributor helps.

                          After having done this a few times, may I suggest that you unhook the small hose in the way. This will give you more room....and, if you want to buy a tool for the job, buy a ratchet wrench that will fit the bolt. This shortened the time for this chore considerably.
