    If you can find a Police car, they used a 7 blade fan. the Police car fan clutch is much beefier, but hard to find and expensive when you do find them.

    the only place I have seen the Police fan clutch advertised is here;

      Newer Panther fans are really big. Almost 9" from face to the back of the motor. I have one and I've been meaning to test fit it for clearance. Scott put a Mark VIII fan (same size as a Taurus but better flow numbers) inside a 1990 Townie shroud, and it looks really slick. You can't even see the E-fan. If my 98 Panther fan doesn't fit, I'm going to try trimming down the shroud that comes with it or maybe try and cut out just the motor part and attach it inside a stock shround (not mine, for obvious reasons) and see how that works out. Those panther fans suck huge amounts of power. Mine pulls almost 20 amps on low, and more than 35 on high. You will need decently heavy wiring, and I'd highly suggest an alternator upgrade.

        good to know. I wonder if using the police fan and say a truck clutch would work? I'd assume the truck clutches are a little heavier since they're a 6 blade fan.

          would a 10" puller on the front of the radiator help cool the engine more, or would that just muck everything up?

            If it is pushing air thru the radiator, it surely wouldnt hurt...

              Make sure you get a pusher not a puller fan.

                Well I couldn't find a six blade fan at th junkyard today, so I picked up a Bronco fan with some massuve clutch, about twice thicker than the stockers. When I got home I noticed the pin that holds the metal brcket for the spring has sheared off, so untill I fix it the clutch is unusable. As of right now the non-flex fan is solidly mounted to my water pump through the flex fan spacer and a custom hub, it's loud as hell but it doesn't really make a difference when it comes to gas mileage. Some day I'll repair the clutch and will run it as supposed to, but untill then this is gonna be my setup.

                  would this be a good electric fan to upgrade to? Its 16 inches and 2100 CFM

                  oh and how did you guys hook up your fan, where did you run the power and ground wires to and how did you set up a thermostat?

                      You'd need a fan controller to take care of kicking it on and off. Ground you can grab wherever, hot you'd probably run through a relay to the battery directly. Thermostat setup would be determined by the controller. I'd suggest a "wet" sensor if possible. It reads the coolant temperature directly. The alternative is a dry sensor which just sticks in the fins on the radiator.
