    Erratic idle UPDATE

This is fucking pissing me off but...ok...I replaced the IAC, it did nothing, I replaced all the vacuum hoses and gaskets connected to the upper, didn't make a difference. Tonight I read the codes again it gave me 22, MAP sensor. So I unplugged the vacuum line going to it and the car ran. It idled quite a bit higher RPM but still no rolling and dieing. I assume this means I have a bad MAP? Right? I drove around the parking lot a bit and when I parked it I could smell something so I looked under the car and the passenger cat was glowing red at the end. WTF! does that have something to do with the unplugged MAP? Is it clogged? I've heard a rich mixture can cause that? Cause with the vac line unplugged the car thinks its wide open and would dump the according amount of fuel in, makes sense to me but I really dont know LOL.

cat is clogged man, rip it off or hollow it out, glowin cause thats where all the heat build up is, and being clogged its building up pressure in the motor, hence the map problems, mine barely ran when the exhuast was clogged

Unplugged MAP will run lots of fuel, which causes the cats to glow. Those MAP sensors seldom fail. Check the connector on it, and the hose. Reset the codes and try it again. I'd be more likely to suspect a coolant or air temperature sensor on the blink causing the idle problems than a map problem. If the TPS is out of whack, that can also cause idle problems.

Unplugging the MAP in most cases won't cause the engine to stall, so it's not a good indication to wether it's working right or not. Getting a code 22 doesn't mean the MAP is bad, it just means it is out of range, which could be caused by low vacuum.

I've never seen a cat glow because of being rich, usually clogged or lean. Knock them cats out or replace 'em.

I replaced the MAP today. Problem solved  Runs perfect now. I took it for a short drive just to get it up to temperature, the cat wasn't glowing so I'm gonna assume it had something to do with the unplugged MAP. Now I can get it to the body shop and get that fuckin rocker fixed.

I thought lean was the manifolds glow, and rich was the cats glow? Or is that the other way around?
