Get rid of that fuckin CFI mang

I had similar problems, shitty gas mileage, after a while the CFI just gave up the ghost and stopped working right, so I pulled it all out in favor of a 2150 2bbl. I now have a little better gas mileage (around 16) at least it was better than the 13-14 I was getting. I wouldn't suggest the 2bbl though, a 4bbl would be better. The guys who have done a 4bbl swap will chime in and help out more

my cfi works decent, rip out the emissions crap if its legal in your state, pull out the egr sensor and make sure its left open and zip tie it up out of the way, clean the iac solenoid, change/clean your injectors and the throttle body, change the fuel filter, lets see...uh, in the summer disconnect the choke and the fast idle solenoid(the vac. diagrams are up on here somewhere, do a search), give it a good tune up with quality wires and plugs, ditch the cat converters if legal to do so, get a better flowing exhaust, i get about 16-18 in my towncar on a good day and usually around 14-16 on average, it runs damn good...for now, lol, whenever i get the $$$ 4bbl carb swap!!!!!!

            My 79 bronco with a 400M and 4bbl, cam heads, intake....etc...got 11-13...

Sounds like the car needs a tune up and a good going through. The cats being clogged will kill milage-and being as old as it is, they probably are. EGR, O2, etc, should be checked out and replaced.

allright then, what do i need to do to change the car back to the carb set up?? is there a wright-up here some where? and sorry but i live in one of the two counties in missouri that emision test your car and part of that is checking to see if the cats are in place. now if i can kep the car running good enough to pass emitions without them i personally wouldn't mind say hallowing them out a little!!:headbang: :headbang: :devil2: :headbang3: also how much larger are we talking on the exhaust 3 inch or so??

If you have to worry about emmisions, I wouldnt suggest a carb swap then. If you want more milage you should do a regular tune up. Replace fuel and air filter, spark plugs+wires, dizzy cap+rotor, O2 sensor, check and set the timing correctly, also look for any vacuum leaks(broken lines or disconected ones) maybe the tps too. Clean out the map sensor and egr. Replacing the injectors wouldnt be bad either but they are like $70. Old cats will also bring down your milage as well.

Just start with the simplest and routine things first plugs, wires, filters, cap and rotor, then see if that helped and then try the O2. And keep going till she's fixed. CFI is a bastard, but it can work well if youve got the time and patience for it. 85Crownhpp will chime in on some good CFI tips.

You can't really clean the map sensor....

Also check the timing. Older cars with worn chains will cause the timing to be off and that will also hurt milage a bit.

If 2 barrels suck then why does mine flow 590 cfm? Car runs rich as hell right now and I bet it has every bit as much power as a 4 barrel.

And that's the benefit of the 4 bbl. That way you don't run way rich at low rpm and cruising, but at high RPM/WOT you get all the gas and air you need.

I've had plenty of 2bbls that ran great...my 302 and 429 both were 2 bbls and would run like a raped ape...
