    Third gear-Imminent failure?

The more I drive GL after the shift kit install, the weirder 3rd feels when it shifts in. Today it shifted from 2-3, and it felt like it just slid in, no real grab at all. Even at full throttle it feels a little sloppy. I checked the fluid, the level is good, the fluid is clean, but the shift just doesn't feel right. What's the deal?

    Am I being paranoid?

they arent designed to slam, but yea, it may be slipping. did you ever change the filter? sometimes when they arent gettin enough flow through the filter it affects the shifting.

Let it do a 2-3 shift not under power. Drive in D not OD at WOT till about 55mph, then let completely off. Does it have a some-what hard shift into 3rd? If it does, now do it a WOT 2-3 shift and see how it feels in comparison. If it is mushy, that and a mushy 3-4 shift under partial power are signs that the direct clutch is failing. Wether from not getting pressure or from worn clutches.

Well, I took GL out to town today to pick up groceries, had my dad with me, so I stayed out of the carb to try to figure out the trans problem. BUT, I did find out something that bothers me. 1-2 shift is firm. The engine has a lot of power in those gears, when it shifts into third, it feels like I just drove into molasses or something, the power drops off horribly. I'm not feeling good about this at all. Anyone got an idea? This happens at around 1/2 throttle or so.

Sounds like the clutches are slipping.

It feels pretty solid, doesn't feel like it's slipping, but it seems to be some kind of resistance or something. I'm thinking it MIGHT be the carb, for some reason it has a dead spot and at certain RPM's it causes some problems. Idunno

If you continue accelerating in 3rd, does it still feel bogged out? If so, it might not be a dead spot in the carb. If you keep it in 3rd and the power picks up after a certain RPM, then you may be right about the carb.

No, it picks up power again, that's why I think it might be the carb

It'd be worth it. What kind of mpg are you pulling on the highway?
