Hi All,
Well, it finally happened: the odometer froze at 156,500 miles.
I took the instrument cluster apart to the point where I pulled off the fuel gauge face and saw a black plastic gear connected to a black rubber worm gear. The worm gear connected to the odometer number rollers.
The plastic gear had teeth missing.
I see for sale low-mileage instrument clusters for 89-93 Mustangs and F-350 trucks for reasonable prices. (Much cheaper than 2 gears from Speedometer Plus).
I'm thinking of buying one and replacing both gears.
Anything i should be aware of before trying this?
Will they fit on my 91 Marquis?
I'm very concerned because i read somewhere that the 91 Marquis had a small electric motor which turned the number rollers and worm gear.
Help please.
Thanks,
91gmblack
