Weird question about Transmission...

the transmission issue has been resolved. i took her to a transmission shop down the road and the guy spotted the problem right away. the kickdown popped out and he replaced the POS rubber bushing w/ a brass one. she is shifting fine and doesnt act like the transmission is slipping. i still wanna get the fuel filter, and trans filter kit done. the mechanic said i saved the transmission by manually shifting it instead of forcing the transmission to do the work when it was acting up. the issue of the gas pedal sticking was due to the cables under the hood getting hung up on the loose kickdown that was just hangin there. now all i have to do is get a radiator since hers blew a hole in it after i cleaned it out. i guarantee to have pics up of Baby today, though they wont look great since it is overcast.

Told you to check the TV bushingGlad you got it before the trans fried.
BoxMan - TV bushing sits on the end of the cable where it hooks to the throttle. Its the black plastic thing that sits in the hole on the throttle lever and the cable pops into it. The 86 doesn't have one, its got a peg on the throttle lever with like a hook end on the cable, so no problem there.Last edited by gadget73; 05-07-2006, 03:04 AM.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

If you drop the cardboard junk under the dash, you'll see a white plastic collar on the steering column. This is the adjustment for the shift indicator. Usually what happens is the plastic cracks and throws the thing off. Fasten it back together with a zip tie and you'll be ok. If its not broken, loosen the screw a little so you can rotate it to get the indicator correct.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

No one over here has the diagram of where the grommet is located? C'mon...
Open your hood, stand on the driver side of the bay, and look under the throttle body. You may need to remove the air filter box and tube to make it easier to see. It's only a few bolts, so I recommend it.
Under the throttle body you'll see two cables bolted to a bracket. One is the throttle cable (on top) the other is the TV cable. It tells the transmission where the throttle is and that's how it shifts gears and such. On the very end of the cable, there is a small plastic piece. Over time the plastic becomes brittle and can crack, break off, or start leaking.
Inspect yours.
Call your Ford dealer or a trans shop and ask them if they have a Ford AOD TV cable grommet. If they have half a brain, they'll know what your talking about.
Last, if you have to reset your TV cable and line pressure, there is a how-to at the TOACC? whatever the Thunderbird wowners club website is on how to reset the TV cable pressure.
Before you go spending money or time on a trans rebuild, check the $3 fix first. I had a friend who put three transs in his car before I told him to look at the grommet...which ended up being the problem.

Baby started acting up and it is the transmission. OD is slipping and that is the only one that is having probs currently. i will have to baby, Baby in drive till i get the money to have her tranny rebuilt. it is gonna cost me $623 + tax. if the tranny fails i can swap outta Vickie so that i can take the tranny in and have it repaired.

You honestly don't really need OD for daily driving, it's not going to hurt the car at all. I use OD only when I'm on the highway and even then if you didn't have it it may just hurt your gas mileage a little bit.
