exhaust is cut off, what route should I go

I figured my cats were bad, so I chopped em off (they dont look to bad haha) anyways, the exhaust I had on there was a Y pipe going to one muffler than it cuts out before the rear pass. wheel.. it just sort of hung there sucking. Would it be worth the money to get 2 new mufflers and do a dual exhaust? Im a pretty big nub when it comes to exhaust, my dad can peice it together and what not but I dont trust him when it comes to spending my money on parts. Im reeeally not into making my car sound louder, I never had a problem with the way it sounded with the little stock muffler.

any ideas, or should i just use what I have? (minus the cats)

    Yes, it would be.

If you wanted to, and if it was legal, offroad pipes to two flowmaster 40 series, with turndowns before the axle would be Inexpensive.

Hell, I liked the way mine sounded with an open h-pipe

or you could use a pair of dynomax super turbos and save yourself $100.
But, the flowmasters would sound better. But then again, a pair of cherry bombs would sound even better, and save the ultimate in cost. Dual is the way to go.

And I assume that you don't have a visual check for cats on your state vehicle inspection

So I happen to want to get my exhaust done right now. Can I use a 2-1/2" mustang down pipe and H pipe? Or is that one piece on a Mustang?

My H pipe connected directly to the Shorty headers, so there is a Down pipe of sorts already in a Mustang H pipe.

Don't those have to be spread apart or such to fit??

I don't think they would need to be spread as it is going on the same engine with the same headers.

nah, im Canadian eh?, I Would need cats if I needed to have the car put in someone elses name (sell it) than you need to pass the saftey inspection.

              NOOB QUESTION -

I dont get the whole H pipe thing.. why not just 2 seperate pipes from each manifold.. why connect them?]

oh and what can I expect from these "cherry bomb" mufflers.. would my car sound like ass? is it really loud? cause they are daayum cheap

i run mustang headers, h pipe, back to 2.25 inch over axle pipes with 2.5 inch tailpipes, no mufflers, cheapie resonated tips, and its loud, really loud, used to have cherry bombs and it was loud, think nice mustang loud, over 35 or so at cruise speed you barely heard it, but floor it off a red light and youd hear it some, nothing too bad, just as loud as all the pickups with the dual exhaust eveyone loves to do lately, i like my straight pipes, just hope the local police do too, no problems yet....

Connecting the pipes together is to equalize the flow between both sides or something. It makes for more low end torque, and as a side bonus it sounds better. If you're not looking to spend a ton, and still want a performance upgrade, I would suggest stock HO headers, a stock offroad Mustang H pipe, the S10 2.25" mid pipes, mufflers of your choice, and 2" or larger over-axle pipes. Just remember that without those cats, it will be louder. A catless car with glasspacks is going to make noise. If you want it quiet, you're gonna have to spend a few bucks on good mufflers.

An H-Pipe makes the car's tone smoother, and is supposed to add a small amount of torque/horsepower.

I've got they Cherry Bomb glasspacks on my car. Sounds freakin' awesome with no cats. The only time they don't sound great is at WOT, and then they sound like straight pipes (which I don't think sound the best). I have the Mustang Headers and Off Road H-Pipe, but I haven't installed them yet.

Wooo, I got lucky.. when I cut off my cats, a tank of gas later and I improved my milage by about 25%.

Phew!, I still cant decide on my exhaust, I dont know if im going to be able to get an H pipe (moneys tiiight right now) so I might have to settle for 2 individual pipes (will this be ok?) and I snagged 2 cheapo cherry bomb mufflers ($36 a peice haha).. soo we will see what happens.

Thanks for all the help guys, im just glad its been worth it.

Thats good news to my ears. I'm really hoping for a bump in power and fuel economy once I do the exhaust on my car.

A stock Mustang H-pipe isn't expensive, although you would have to swap headers while you're at it.
