'88 GM on its last legs...

Fuckin' thing scared the shit outta me today. Ridin' around feelin' good, then all the sudden when I stepped on teh gas it started jerkin' REAL bad and shakin'. Kept doin it, so I stomped it...downshifted into second OK. Got onto some main roads and floored it...hardly any power. Drive it about 1/4 throttle it seemed ok, any more throttle and it'd jerk and carry on..and don't forget the huge loss in power.

So I was thinkin' the tranny was goin out, never had any trouble with it so wtf? Checked the fluid...brown burnt and nasty but full. Then I noticed a rod knock was more clear. Rev it up and the internals of the motor SCREAM.

What do y'all think? Motor is shittin' the bed?

I've seen where extreme slop in the bearings can cause a loss of power and a vibration. My friend's Fireturd 2.8 did exactly that when he spun the bearings after revving the shit out of the engine.

Oil generally helps an engine! lol...

I always get the short end of the stick... my '82 has a windshield washer warning light in place of everyone else's low oil light. Apparently, Ford discovered in 1982 that low windshield washer fluid was more important than low engine oil. I might add that the wiring for the sensor won't plug up to the windshield washer container, some dumba$$ at Ford taped it up with the rest of the harness and didn't leave enough wire for it to plug up. So I have a completely useless light that doesn't even plug up.

Hmm, GM's have both low oil and low washer fluid lights.

I've got two oil lights, "low oil" and "check oil" when the pipe for my sender blew, the low oil level indicator never came on, not sure how much oil you have to lose before it comes on, by the time it comes on the engine probably would have already blown up

His motor's kinda shot to begin with IIRC.

It may have been something else, that went away. The only thing that makes sense about the oil to me, is the rod knock that got more noticable. :p

Jon, the check oil light comes on about 1-1.5 quarts low usually if its working right. If the wire is broken or the module for it is shot then it probably won't come on at all.
