    Step 1

    Make a budget

    Step 2

    Blow away budget by 150%

Seriously you need to decide a few things up front

    Plug and play junkyard motor??

    Rebuilt?

    Crate motor?

I will agree that for a stock motor install, a 302 HO will be more HP as it sits than a stock 351 (At least one you will find in some late model truck) Lots of Exploder 302's avail (Best choice) or T-Bird /Mustang

At least around here I hardly see 5.0 stangs in the yard, though I did see a 85 with the motor still in there, this looked like a CORE all the way, no runner.

    EFI vs Carb

Boy howdy that is a tough call. The custom swap wire harness is the way everyone does the swaps for a good reason. Sure you can completley re-wire the engine harness/ car harness yourself but that is quite a manly and time consuming project. More of those projects end up never running or are simply a fucking disater compared to the home built EFI conversions that go smooth.

302 HO's run real nice with a carb, and you can sell off the intake etc...

You'll need the double sump 351W Oil Pan from a 351W Panther or Fox Mustang Transplant. I don't *think* any other stock oil pans will fit a 351W in a Panther. You could also get an aftermarket oil pan.
