electronic cutouts -- now or later?

Since I'm going to try and get the headers and H-pipe on the '88, I'm debating if I should go ahead and do the electronic cutouts right away. Only thing holding me back is cost.

    About $250 total

    About $350 total

What do you guys think? I suppose I could just add the cutouts later, but I think it would be easier to just add them right away. I figure they'll go right after the cat-less H-pipe when mounted.

I concurr, the bang/buck ratio is not very attractive with a stockish 302.

If you are after instant massive noise, then this will kick ass.

Yes, with the stock 302 I have no balls to back up the sound, but I'm looking well into the future for when a new motor (whatever it ends up being) is built and installed. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to hold off on the cut-outs for now. Pete's right, money towards bigger fish. Although, I still want to redo the exhaust with the headers and cat-less H-pipe with turbo mufflers.

What you aught to do is, go ahead and get the flowtech Y pipes and have those welded in when you get the exhaust done. That way for now you still have the option of open or closed exhaust, you just have to get out of the car to take on and off the cap with wing-nuts. Then later on you can get the electric valve and install that. The flowtechs (or what ever brand you use) are pretty cheap.

I want it for those times when a ricer is sitting next to me in traffic and he has his rap shit cranked. I'd open her up and stand on it.

I'd love to get 'em. It's just the cost. They are tempting. Maybe . . . if I get some long hours in at work.

That is at a minimum 1/2 of the cost of an Explorer motor. I would personally rather have stock exhaust and an Explorer motor than headers and a lo-po boat anchor turd.

At a maximum my friend. Cost and labor to install is a much much MUCH larger part of the motor swap than a simple cut out.

Still, I have to agree with Mercracer. Spend money on stuff that makes a difference. Thats like putting fart cannons on a Civic. Ok, its loud but thats it. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Made just over 3tenths of a difference on my 1/4 mile. It's a cool factor thing though, just like all the LEDs that Pete has on his car, do they make it go faster and better..no, but it's still cool.

True, but I'd say spen the $$ on something that'll get you closer to your goal. Save the cut-outs for when you've got a sick 347 under the hood that spits flames.

If the cutouts will make the car more fun to you, get them.

I have more fun with the exhaust on my car than anything else. There is just nothing like setting off import car alarms, especially at about 4:30am.
