    my baby can't breathe

She's suffocating. She's got the power, but she feels like she's pulling a trailer. I have a feeling the cats need to go. 170K miles on those things, they've got to be plugged up. I've also got a hot burning smell under the hood. Everything is clear, so I figure it's the cats or manifolds. I hope that the headers and cat-less H-pipe solve it. I've only got a little work left on the '89, then I'll start tearing into S.U. So, do you guys think the cats could be causing me issues?

yeah, with that kind of mileage on them. I'm sure mine will get a nice healthy kick in the pants when I finally get them off.

I did some searching and got some q's. Is there a certain size header bolt to use? Last time I went in and asked for manifold bolts, they said I had to bring the old ones in to get the right size. I assume the gaskets needed would be for the Mustang headers and not the GM manifolds, correct?

IIRC you need bolts with a very small head for the headders.

My car has 185K on it, and my cats were clear as could be, but I gutted them anyway. No change in power or sound.

smallblock ford exhaust gaskets are smallblock ford exhaust gaskets. Same part for the stock manifolds and the headers. The bolts are the same thread and diameter, but its the length that differs. Match up the short bolts from the stock manifolds. All the ones on HO headers are the same as those bolts.
