You also need 3.73s, an HO govenor, and a good shift kit.

Could be those fat meats and a good LSD and coenciding rear traction....

My car doesn't bake tires either. Not too concerned about this. I didn't put it together to waste tires. I put it together to move down the road, something it does with great ease. I do suspect something is funky with it tho because I can mash the pedal and I distinctly feel another cylinder kicking in once it winds over about 3000 rpm. I guess I'll have to pull a compression test and see whats going on.

mine does a similar thing. I thought it was just the HO cam kicking in its upper end power.

Heck, even the wagon will roach 'em easily....with a stock converter. right now it won't, because the trans is toast....but I spent a day destroying the tires and trans... it works well

Your car probably runs and drives just like mine does then. I'm fine with it. She's no stoplight terror but it will pass people on the highway with abandon. I've more than slightly considered doing an Explorer cam swap and throwing either ported E7s or GT40 heads on this thing at some point. I would like some more low end grunt but its not a top priority. Right now I'm more worried about getting the exhaust done so it'll get through inspection (runs out in 4 days and the parts aren't here yet), and getting the rust holes fixed so I still have a car to work on.

My variable venturi carb bogs out right before the tires spin. The '87 LX will light them up easily. But my Ranger does enough spinning that I kind of like it that I can take off without the tires melting in the LTD. Why Ford made something with 4.10's and a peg leg, and the beastly low end torque () of a 2.3L, I don't know. But the Ranger always seems to spin at the worst times (like the time I pulled out in front of the sheriff, or the time I pulled out in front of the dump truck).

My 87 coupe will spin the tires at part throttle from a stop, but most of the time its just a short chrip. Leaving the walmart parking lot very late last night, I decided to gun it going into a left turn and it did a very nice burnout/drift. It was empty and I needed some relief since I've been driving even more easier than usual due to fucking gas prices. Only mods are dual exhaust and it has a stock track-lock differential.

Even with the lopo 5.0, its still all good.
